Overview

Building consensus is a subset of skills and tools under the heading decision making.  Groups effectively get to a decision that they can implement and that is sustainable as a by-product of full participation and facilitative behaviors of the leader and members.  Our session will be a dialogue about how anyone from anywhere in a meeting can be facilitative or to facilitate the group towards resolution or problem solving.

Agenda Details:
  • What works and what does not work as well as we would like in our experience with meetings? A discussion and dialogue
  • What does the research demonstrate about building consensus effectively- the critical importance of 'process intelligence'  A short talk followed by discussion
  • Process Agreements - a leader's role first and foremost is to build safety to participate 0 rules of engagement lead the way.
  • Types of decision methods and the utility of each in distinct situations 0 a dialogue regarding levels of engagement and time required for each type of decision
  • Best practices in building consensus - defining consensus pragmatically - the value of tools and skills to get to consensus.
  • Steps in reaching consensus - Opening, Narrowing and Closing
  • The role of meeting agendas in expediting consensus
