1.0 Corporate Overview
In 1994,
Exodus Communications was founded upon two premises. First, that the Internet would emerge as a powerful and
indispensable medium for business, and second, that the Internet’s rapid growth
would drive companies to outsource the management of mission-critical Internet
operations.
Today, the Internet’s power to dramatically expand business
is undeniable. With the explosive
growth of e-commerce, companies are now realizing that managing their Internet
businesses internally is neither the most efficient, nor the most
cost-effective use of available resources.
With their winning business model, Exodus has become a
leading provider of Internet systems and network management solutions for over
2800 customers and over 40% of the world’s top Web sites.
Exodus manages Web sites and its network infrastructure from
a global network of Internet Data Centers (IDCs) in North America, Europe and
the Asia Pacific. These IDCs provide
the physical environment necessary to keep your servers up and running 24 x
7. Our world-class facilities have a
proprietary design that includes raised floors and HVAC temperature control
systems with separate cooling zones and seismically-braced racks.
These facilities offer the widest range of physical security
features available, including state-of-the-art smoke detection and fire
suppression systems, motion sensors and 24 x 7 secured access, as well as video
camera surveillance and security breach alarms.
Within the IDCs, we deliver the highest levels of
reliability through redundant subsystems, such as on-site power with multiple
backup generators. Plus, in order to
maximize connectivity rates and overall site performance, our IDCs are located
within close proximity to major public and private interconnects.
Our network is one of the largest IP networks in the world
with an Internet exchange peak of over 10.3 gigabits per second. With our high-performance, dedicated and
redundant backbone network, all of our IDCs take advantage of multiple
high-speed fiber optic lines which virtually eliminate the risk of a single
point of failure. Within each IDC, our
LAN architecture scales at a pace equally aggressive to the increase of our
customers’ bandwidth requirements.
One of our greatest strengths is achieved by employing one
of the industry’s most comprehensive sets of public and private network
interconnects. With a high concentration
in private connections with ISPs and Tier 1 providers Exodus empowers superior
speed and dependability.
To ensure that your site is always available, always
responsive and always secure, outsourcing the management and monitoring of your
mission-critical Internet operations is crucial. Exodus’ Managed Services provide state-of-the-art tools to manage
and measure your Web site’s performance.
Exodus’ Managed Services provide next generation tools for
proactive systems management including Exodus’ DataVault Service, which
leverages the latest in backup and storage technology to provide a dedicated
system for effectively safeguarding your mission-critical data. Additionally, the Exodus Security Service
Pack offers affordable bundled services designed to help your company scalably
plan and manage the ongoing protection of it’s Internet operations.
With our expertise in technical consulting, Exodus Professional
Services can evaluate your business environment, address existing and future
needs, and design scalable, custom solutions that fit your corporate strategy
and meet high performance standards.
Our experience in building solid Internet enterprises not only helps our
customers get to market ahead of their competition, we also help them handle
the widest range of ongoing business requirements – spanning networking,
security, storage, content distribution, site design, performance measurement
and Web site readiness.
Our unique combination of Internet-focused planning, design
and implementation services, and performance optimization offerings enables us
to quickly create a secure, compelling solution for any type of business moving
to or expanding its presence on the Internet.
There’s no question. Exodus offers the security, performance, scalability, responsiveness and management services that provide that optimal environment for your Internet business. Also, our industry expertise will help get your business to market quickly and cost-effectively. In fact, our significant economies of scale result in a savings of 6:1 relative to achieving the same level of management and performance in-house. Plus, our depth of expertise, comprehensive service offerings and superior infrastructure put you on the cutting edge of technology – advantages that your business cannot afford to be without.
Exodus Communications'
Internet Data Centers (IDCs) provide the physical environment necessary to keep
your servers up and running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These world-class
facilities are custom designed with raised floors, HVAC temperature control
systems with separate cooling zones, and seismically braced racks. They offer
the widest range of physical security features, including state-of-the-art
smoke detection and fire suppression systems, motion sensors, and 24x7 secured
access, as well as video camera surveillance and security breach alarms.
Within these
facilities, we are able to deliver the highest levels of reliability through a
number of redundant subsystems, such as multiple fiber trunks coming into each
IDC from multiple sources, fully redundant power on the premises, and multiple
backup generators.
Exodus currently
operates a global network of Internet
Data Centers in major metropolitan areas, with close proximity to
major public and private interconnects to maximize connectivity rate and
overall site performance.
Finally, all Exodus
Internet Data Centers combine around-the-clock systems management with onsite
personnel trained in the areas of networking, Internet, and systems management.
The result is a physical and technical environment affording customers the
reliability and flexibility necessary to outsource their mission-critical
Internet operations.
Exodus Communications Virtual Data Center (VDC)
The
Virtual Data Center (VDC) product is a secured private area within the Exodus
Communications Data Center. It is
designed with steel mesh walls and a key lock sliding access door. The VDC provides ultimate space flexibility
for customers with non-rack mountable equipment and/or with a large number of
servers. The VDC is designed to house
computer and networking equipment.
3.0 Network
The Exodus Network
is today one of the largest IP networks in the world—with a peak Internet
exchange rate of over 12.6 gigabits per second. Comprising the Exodus Network
is a global backbone, high performance network architecture and
industry-leading public and private interconnect arrangements—the allied
strengths of which are fundamental to delivering the outstanding levels of
performance and service to both our customers and yours, 24 hours a day, 7 days
a week.
Our high
performance, dedicated, and redundant backbone network connects all of our Internet Data Centers using multiple
high-speed OC-3, and OC-12 lines which virtually eliminate the risk of a single
point of failure.
Within each
Internet Data Center, our LAN architecture scales at a pace equally aggressive
to the increase of our customers' bandwidth requirements. Using PacketEngine's
technology as a Layer 2 switch, the new architecture allows us to scale in
anticipation of customer demand. At the same time, we are advancing the Exodus
Internet node architecture by moving towards more reliable and far more
powerful routers.
The Exodus Network
achieves its greatest strength with one of the industry's most comprehensive
sets of public and private network interconnects. With a high concentration in
private connections with major ISPs and Tier-1 providers, Exodus empowers
superior speed and dependability by way of these greatly preferred private
routes.
In each dimension
and in its entirety, the Exodus global network provides the reliability,
performance and scalability required to give you the freedom to maintain your
mission-critical Internet operations and to focus on your core business.
If the Exodus
network is the blueprint for maximizing your company's ability to meet high
availability demands, then the foundation upon which all other strengths rely
is the Exodus Backbone. The high-performance, scalable and redundant
architecture of the Exodus Backbone allows online businesses to diversify and
grow in the grips of an intensifying Internet pace.
The Exodus Backbone
globally links strategically located Exodus Internet Data Center LANs with
fiber paths from multiple vendors, ranging in speed from OC-3c (155Mbps) to
OC-12c (622Mbps). This "mesh" configuration eliminates single
point-to-point fiber link failures to ensure the redundancy allowing for
uninterrupted flow of data across the network.
The Exodus
architecture continues to out-scale unprecedented customer growth in the emerging
Internet markets and is well positioned to offer the highest levels of service
to network service providers and corporate customers worldwide.

5.3 Security Services
The risks associated
with managing Web site information, including online customer transactions,
should never be discounted, but can be kept in perspective with security
services which address your unique security position.
Protect your
business and safeguard your name
As a leader in Internet outsourcing and security solutions,
Exodus offers state-of-the art security management with firewall technology.
Firewalls are an indispensable
element of any Web security implementation as they intercept all traffic
entering your site and use a set of sophisticated rules to weed out potentially
harmful access. Thus, the firewall system provides a front gate to protect
against malicious entrants.
Exodus will work
with you to develop and define your firewall security policy, and then
customize, install and manage Check Point FireWall-1 or Cisco Secure PIX
firewalls according to your requirements.
Exodus' Security
Services team, comprised of world-class experts in information security, is
certified for the FireWall-1 and PIX products. Our highly trained security
experts will then monitor your firewall 24 x 7, and alert you in the event of a
problem.
Exodus offers two options for firewall hardware
ownership. Our Managed Firewall Service provides a complete solution,
including rental of the firewall software and hardware, available for both the
FireWall-1 and PIX products. The Firewall Care Service covers complete management of a Cisco
Secure PIX firewall supplied by the customer, and is only available for the
PIX.
For both of these
services there are two levels of functionality and cost: Pro and Express.
Exodus provides 24 x 7 firewall service using leading
software and hardware platforms to protect your network and network assets from
hostile attacks. This service saves you time and money eliminating the need to
hire and train network security experts who can cost hundreds of thousands of
dollars per year. Our managed firewall services will also bring you peace of
mind as our security team is continuously monitoring your systems. Included
with these services is access to a secure Web site for viewing your firewall
log and firewall policies.
Today's Web environment often requires the highest level of availability. To meet this need, we have developed a Fail-Over Firewall configuration with hot stand-by. In the event of a failure at the primary firewall the secondary dedicated equipment will detect the failure and begin operating. The Fail-Over is supported on both the Check Point FireWall-1 and Cisco Secure PIX platforms at the Pro level for both Managed Firewall Services and Firewall Care Services.
Firewall technology
is today the standard for protecting perimeter access to your Internet site.
Exodus' Managed Firewall Service ensures that you get the most out of this
technology by providing precise configuration and aggressive management for
your firewall.
With the Managed
Firewall Pro Service, our security experts will work with you to define your
firewall security policy, and then customize, install and manage the product
chosen most appropriate to your business.
The Managed Firewall
Express Service offers a standard firewall policy template for rapid deployment
at a lower cost than the Pro service.
|
Exodus Firewall Care
Services provide managed firewall services and additional support for customers
who already own a Cisco Secure PIX Firewall or those planning to purchase the equipment
through the Cisco SmartStart program. Exodus will provide for the installation
and management of your firewall and will work with the firewall vendor to
facilitate repair of hardware. With the Firewall Care Pro Service, our security
experts will first work with you to define your firewall security policy and
review your network configuration. The Firewall Care Express Service offers a
standard firewall policy template for rapid deployment at a lower cost than the
Pro service.
|
Ongoing analysis of your network's vulnerability will allow
you to take strengthening measures as early as possible, potentially reducing
