The Proposal
 

C12. State whether the applicant intends to perform all aspects of the Registry Function, or whether the applicant intends to outsource some or all aspects of the Registry Function to other entities that will provide services or facilities under contract with the applicant. If any portion(s) of the services or facilities will be provided by another entity under contract, please describe which portion(s), state the time period during which they will be provided under contract, and identify what entity will be providing the services or facilities.

This application is made by Unity Registry, a partnership between Poptel Ltd and AusRegistry Pty Ltd. As registry operator it will contract facilities, resources and expertise from Poptel, AusRegistry and others as described elsewhere in this proposal.

Company details for Poptel and AusRegistry are listed in C13 as they are among the entities fulfilling the criteria for inclusion.

All contracts will be in place as required prior to the registry going live and are intended to run indefinitely, unless otherwise stated.

The following aspects of the Registry Function will be performed by other entities:

REGISTRY APPLICATION

The registry application has been developed for Unity Registry, and will be maintained and supported by AusRegistry.

HOSTING FACILITIES FOR THE REGISTRY SYSTEMS.

The primary live registry will be hosted in facilities provided by Business Serve plc in their facility in Salford, England.

The secondary (hot standby) registry will be hosted in facilities provided by TeleCity UK Ltd in their facility in Manchester, England.

An additional cold standby registry, the OT&E, evaluation and development environments will be hosted in facilities provided by Connect.com’s Connect Internet Center (CIC) in Melbourne Australia.

The primary and secondary registry facilities will be equipped, managed and supported by Poptel Ltd. The facility in Melbourne will be equipped, managed and supported by AusRegistry Pty Ltd.

The contracts to support this function are intended to last for the duration of the Registry Agreement between Unity Registry and ICANN.

ZONE FILE DISTRIBUTION AND PUBLICATION

Unity Registry intends to use VeriSign name resolution and distribution facilities, for a significant part of 2003. During 2003 there will be a migration of these services to the equivalent facilities provided by Nominum (see C18 for details).

The contract with Nominum to support this function is intended to last for the remainder of the Registry Agreement between Unity Registry and ICANN.

DATA ESCROW

Data escrow will be provided by NCC Group in their facility in Manchester England. The contract to support this function is intended to last for the duration of the Registry Agreement between Unity Registry and ICANN.

TRANSLATION FOR HELPDESK

Language translation services for the support centers will be provided by Comunicado Ltd in London England and eTranslate in Melbourne Australia. The contracts to support this function are intended to last for the duration of the Registry Agreement between Unity Registry and ICANN.
