18:30 - 20:00 UTC on Tuesday, 5 November
512G
Description
This session focuses on the role of the 5 Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) in the Internet ecosystem and highlights some of the current work at the RIRs as well as the challenges they are facing. It will include a brief introduction to the RIR system, and a general overview of Internet Number Resources (IPv4, IPv6 and Autonomous System Numbers), the administration for which the RIRs are responsible. This session will then take a closer look at IPv4 depletion and its global implications to include the transition to IPv6, the increasing scarcity of and on-going demand for IPv4 resources, the emergence and development of an IPv4 transfer market, and the associated increase in fraud observed by the RIRs. It will end with a look at some of the new measures the RIRs are implementing to address the increase in fraud.
