Session Details
In this session, we will talk about how the ICANN community through its policies and advice can (i) preserve the freedoms (especially freedom of expression) of registrants and/or (ii) avoid risks to the safety and well-being of that same group. The potential areas of concern that we will be covering include: DNS abuse mitigation mechanisms, law enforcement requests for urgent and confidential access to domain name registrants’ private and personal data, outdated policies that could encroach upon domain name registrants’ privacy (known as Privacy and Proxy Services Accreditation Issues (PPSAI)), intellectual property overreach and potential human rights violations during the implementation of future RVCs.
Invited speakers will discuss some of these issues, how they are currently being handled by the Registrars and will draw out the next steps on how to protect domain name registrants’ rights, while also pointing out more broad impacts on the human rights of online users if/when they are affected by ICANN policies and what the ICANN community can do about it.
