Session DetailsccTLDs and gTLDs are all TLD registry operators facing similar challenges, including the prevention, detection, and mitigation of DNS abuse. In this joint session for all TLDs, regardless of affiliation, there will be an explanation of the GNSO policy development process regarding “Associated Domain Checks” and the reasons the ccNSO chose to participate in this PDP. While gTLD consensus policies do not apply to ccTLDs, and the ccNSO has traditionally not formally participated in GNSO PDPs, this topic has relevance for all TLD operators.
Associated Domain Checks are a framework which requires proactive investigation of domains linked to malicious actors—particularly when bulk registrations are used for DNS abuse.
Following examples from ccTLD managers on how they handle DNS abuse, a broader discussion will take place: ccTLD managers will be invited to share their experiences and practices, including whether they allow registrars to provide API access for bulk new domain registrations and, if so, under what conditions.
