Independent Review Advisory Committee Call for Expressions of Interest

ICANN Independent Review Advisory Committee
Expressions of Interest Sought by 14 March, 1999

The ICANN Bylaws call for the Initial Board to "adopt policies and procedures for independent third-party review of Board actions alleged by an affected party to have violated the Corporation's articles of incorporation or bylaws." [See Bylaws, Article III, Section 4(b)]

Accordingly, the Initial Board has established the Independent Review Advisory Committee (IRAC) to advise it on an appropriate mechanism for independent third-party review of Board actions. [See Bylaws, Article VII, Section 3] The IRAC will consist of up to eight members, including ICANN Directors Linda Wilson and Hans Kraaijenbrink. Linda Wilson has been appointed chair of the IRAC.

ICANN invites expressions of interest from individuals willing to serve on this committee.

The ICANN Board will select the committee with the goal of assembling a diverse and broadly representative group, in terms of both geography and professional experience. Expressions of interest should be directed to Andrew McLaughlin (mclaughlin@icann.org), by midnight, 14 March, 1999, US Eastern Standard time. Expressions of interest need not be more than 100 words, and should include information about professional background and the contribution the applicant will make towards the work of the IRAC.

The IRAC will commence deliberations in mid-March, 1999. Its work will be conducted via phone or the Internet, to be completed by early May 1999 so that the Board can act on the Committee's recommendations at the May 27, 1999 Board meeting in Berlin. Committee members will be expected to devote sufficient time to the work of the committee to achieve this very tight schedule.
