Description

Yes. - Describe your organization's constituents/membership (number,
citizenship/location, defining characteristic - e.g. profession for
professional societies):
TERRE DES FEMMES has about 3,000 members. The members are predominantly
German, but there is also a sizable number of other German-speaking members,
i.e. Swiss and Austrian. Active membership is restricted to women and women
are the majority of members, while men hold passive membership. - Explain the eligibility requirements (if any) for your
organization's constituents/membership (if you provide a written

There are no particular eligibility requirements, but there is an annual
membership fee. - In what language/s does your organization conduct its business?
Largely in German, but also in English as called for. - Provide support for the statement that your organization is
self-supporting (by answering "yes" you confirm that it will not rely
on ICANN for funding):
Yes. - Describe your organization's structure (e.g. governing and
decision-making bodies and processes):
The general assembly of all members is the highest decision-making body. It
elects the executive board. The board members elect one representative among
themselves who is the representative of the organization before the law. The
board employs an executive director to supervise and run the organization's
daily business. The executive director may attend the board meetings in an
advisory function. City groups receive city group status upon successful
application with the board and are chaired by coordinators. - Does your organization commit to supporting its individual
constituents'/membership's informed participation in ICANN?
Yes. - Describe how your organization keeps its constituents/membership
informed about, and enables them to participate in, decisions
regarding issues of interest:
There are multiple communication channels: Mailing lists are run on the city
group level as well as on an organization-wide level. There is a web site
that is constantly updated (address see above). And there is a quarterly
print publication, entitled "Menschenrechte für die Frau"
(ISSN 1432-4563). Fundamental decisions are made by the general assembly of
all members as described in 12., decisions of lesser import are made on the
lower organizational levels, as appropriate. - Does your organization post on the Internet publicly-accessible,
current information about your organization's goals, structure,
description of constituent group(s)/membership, working mechanisms,

Objectives
- What is your organization's primary goal or mission (please attach
any mission or policy statement for your organization, if in writing,
or provide a URL, if posted):
TERRE DES FEMMES as a non-profit organization works to fight all forms of
discrimination against women and all infringements on women's human rights
that are perpetrated on the grounds of sex/gender, irrespective of the
religious, political, ethnic and national background of the women. The
organization furthermore undertakes to inform and educate the larger public
about discrimination against women and to engage in direct aid initiatives
on behalf of women. (For more details, go to http://www.frauenrechte.de.) - What ICANN-related issues currently are of interest to your
organization's constituents/membership:
TERRE DES FEMMES has actively participated in the UN World Summit on the
Information Society. With respect to Internet Governance, ICANN and the new
Internet Governance Forum, we are interested in building the capacity of
women to understand the issues and thus to raise the number of women who
involve themselves in them. Concerning recent ICANN-related issues, the
debate around the creation of the ".xxx" TLD has been of most interest to
our organization's members. - If formed, will your organization commit to assisting the Regional
At-Large Organization (RALO) for the region in which your organization
is based in performing its function?
Yes.
