Description
- Is your organization constituted so that participation by
individual Internet users who are citizens or residents of countries
within the Geographic Region in which your organization is based will
predominate in your organization's operation?
Membership in ISOC Luxembourg is open for both individuals and
organization. While there is no strict limitation regarding the
physical geographic location of the member, we expect them to have
a social or economic link with Luxembourg. Every paying member
has a single vote in ISOC Luxembourg. - Describe your organization's constituents/membership (number,
citizenship/location, defining characteristic - e.g. profession for
professional societies):
ISOC Luxembourg currently has 35 private individual members and
30 organizational members, mostly from the IT and telecoms sector.Private individual members are students, IT professionals and
network operators, academic teachers and journalists. - Explain the eligibility requirements (if any) for your
organization's constituents/membership (if you provide a written
application for admission as a member, you may attach a copy):
There are no formal eligibility requirements, apart from being
a member of the global ISOC. Membership applications have to
be granted by the ISOC Luxembourg's executive board. - In what language/s does your organization conduct its business?
Mostly French and English, occasionally German. - Provide support for the statement that your organization is
self-supporting (by answering "yes" you confirm that it will not rely
on ICANN for funding):
Yes. - Describe your organization's structure (e.g. governing and
decision-making bodies and processes):
ISOC Luxembourg is controlled by the General Assembly of its members.
General Assemblies are held every year. The General
Assembly elects an Executive Board that legally represents
ISOC Luxembourg, and manages the association's business.In addition to these formal mechanisms, any important decisions
and activities are coordinated through a closed members' mailing
list.The Luxembourg chapter of ISOC is chartered with the Internet Society.
- Does your organization commit to supporting its individual
constituents'/membership's informed participation in ICANN?
Yes. - Describe how your organization keeps its constituents/membership
informed about, and enables them to participate in, decisions
regarding issues of interest:
As noted above, ISOC Luxembourg's members are continuously being informed
about current developments through closed and open mailing
lists that is used to reach consensus to any decisions or positions
the organization makes.ISOC Luxembourg's principal means of keeping the public and members
informed about current issues is its open "discuss" mailing list.
That list has been a focal point for discussions
within the Luxembourg Internet community since 2000. Archives are
available at <http://www.isoc.lu/pipermail/discuss/>.Second to that, there's a web site at <http://www.isoc.lu>, which

We provide a forum to the Internet user community to think and act on
different themes like, but not limited to, Internet access at the technical,
cultural and social level.This is summarized by the Internet Society's mission statement: "The
Internet is for everyone".Finally, we provide awareness-raising and information through conferences,
training sessions and workshops. - What ICANN-related issues currently are of interest to your
organization's constituents/membership:
ISOC Luxembourg's members (and, more generally, participants) closely
track and discuss current Internet developments, issues, and
events as they evolve. This includes, but is in no way limited
to domain name related issues as they affect (in particular
individual) users. - If formed, will your organization commit to assisting the Regional
At-Large Organization (RALO) for the region in which your organization
is based in performing its function?
