Description

your organization's operation?

Yes.

8. Describe your organization's constituents/membership (number,
citizenship/location, defining characteristic - e.g. profession for
professional societies):

ISOCMEX was created in 1996. Members of the organization are ICT
professionals and academics. Currently it has around 100 members with
different degrees of membership. There is also a category for corporate
members but it has been vacant since the burst of the Internet bubble.

9. Explain the eligibility requirements (if any) for your organization's

Eligibility is individual. Members must share a commitment to the health
of the Internet.

10. In what language/s does your organization conduct its business?
Spanish. English when dealing with international matters.

11. Provide support for the statement that your organization is
self-supporting (by answering "yes" you confirm that it will not rely on
ICANN for funding):

Yes.

ISOC Mexico relies on funding obtained from sponsorship of the events we
organize, of which a remnant is used for the very limited expenses of
the Society.

12. Describe your organization's structure (e.g. governing and
decision-making bodies and processes):

The Board of Directors of the Internet Society Mexican Chapter is its

members appointed or elected.

Most of the activities are held online; face-to-face meetings are
webcast and held by videoconference.

An Advisory Council provides additional input.

13. Does your organization commit to supporting its individual
constituents'/membership's informed participation in ICANN?

Yes.

14. Describe how your organization keeps its constituents/membership
informed about, and enables them to participate in, decisions regarding
issues of interest:

By e-mail distribution list, comprising all of its membership, and
face-to-face meetings. We hold an annual meeting, open to a broad
audience, and some seminars at other dates.

15. Does your organization post on the Internet publicly-accessible, current
information about your organization's goals, structure, description of
constituent group(s)/membership, working mechanisms, leadership, and

Objectives

17. What is your organization's primary goal or mission (please attach any
mission or policy statement for your organization, if in writing, or provide
a URL, if posted):

As the Mexican chapter of the Internet Society (www.isoc.org), ISOCMEX
promotes and maintains a broad spectrum of activities focused on the
Internet's research, development, availability, and associated
technologies. It also address issues that confront the future of the
Internet.

ISOCMEX acts as an information and education body and also organizes an
Annual conference and other sponsored events, training workshops,
tutorials, statistical and market research, publications, public policy
and trade activities.

ISOC Mexico leaders and members participate in policy discussions with
the public and private sector. Among recent achievements in national
policy-making, we took part in an effort to avert full privatization of
the 5,8 GHz band of the radioelectric spectrum, thus aiding to keep the
band available for free use of Wi-Fi and other wireless networks. ISOC
Mexico is recognized as a hub in Mexico for the subject of Internet
Governance.

18. What ICANN-related issues currently are of interest to your
organization's constituents/membership:

IGF, DNS, IP addressing policy and IETF standards.

19. If formed, will your organization commit to assisting the Regional
At-Large Organization (RALO) for the region in which your organization is
based in performing its function?

Yes
