Description

  1. Is your organization constituted so that participation by individual
    Internet users who are citizens or residents of countries within the
    Geographic Region in which your organization is based will predominate
    in your organization's operation?

    Yes. Internet Users Network (Tokyo), as its name implies, was established
    to promote the interests of Internet end-users.
  2. Describe your organization's constituents/membership (number, citizenship/location,
    defining characteristic - e.g. profession for professional societies):

    Any individual who agrees with the objective of the Network can become
    the member. Currently, 62 people have joined the Network. They range
    from university professors to journalists, activists, business people,
    students, local government officials, network engineers, entrepreneurs
    and other professionals. About 80% in Tokyo but the rest are spread
    nationwide. One member resides outside the country (Switzerland), but
    actively participates in the online discussion.
  3. Explain the eligibility requirements (if any) for your organization's
    constituents/membership (if you provide a written application for admission
    as a member, you may attach a copy):

    There are no eligibility requirements for membership. Anyone interested
    in promoting user's interests can become a member. The membership application
    translated into English is attached.
  4. In what language/s does your organization conduct its business?
    Among the members, we communicate entirely in Japanese.
  5. Provide support for the statement that your organization is self-supporting
    (by answering "yes" you confirm that it will not rely on ICANN for funding):

    Yes. Internet Users Network is self-supporting entity and will be mostly
    supported by pro-bono work and financial contributions. There is no
    fixed membership fee.
  6. Describe your organization's structure (e.g. governing and decision-making
    bodies and processes):

    There will be five core members called “Facilitators” elected
    by the members. The Facilitators select a “Chief”. Most
    decisions will be taken by the Chief and the Facilitators, with online
    and offline consultation processes with the members.
  7. Does your organization commit to supporting its individual constituents'/membership's
    informed participation in ICANN?

    Yes. This network is going to promote informed and meaningful users
    participation in ICANN policy development with strong focus on global
    collaboration with other user entities.

    informed about, and enables them to participate in, decisions regarding
    issues of interest:

    Yes. We will use the following mechanism to inform and share information
    and knowledge: Regular member meetings, Mailing list, Open meetings
    and the web site.

    We have a tentative website using Yahoo Group functions and plan to
    start a new website within a few weeks, hopefully by ICANN KL meeting.
    The Information is mostly in Japanese.

    Internet governance issues and Internationalized Domain Name issues

    At-Large Organization (RALO) for the region in which your organization
    is based in performing its function?

    Yes. We will make every effort to support the formation and operation
    of the RALO together with other Asia-Pacific User groups.
