O Comitê Consultivo At-Large da ICANN (ALAC) convida todas as pessoas
interessadas para uma reunião no domingo, 23 março, das 16:30
às 18:30hs. na sala Botafogo do Hotel Sofitel, no Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
(para instruções, visite <http://www.icann.org.br/rio/sofitel_index.htm>). O ALAC, que foi nomeado
recentemente pela Comissão de Diretores da ICANN e que inclui membros de
todas as cinco regiões do mundo, estará tomando conhecimento dos
interesses e desafios enfrentados pelos usuários locais da Internet, e
discutindo sobre os meios de auxiliar no desenvolvimento (ou
designação) de grupos para representar e utilizar os
usuários individuais da Internet do Brasil na ICANN. A reunião
estará aberta ao público, e todos os brasileiros interessados
serão bem-vindos e incentivados a participar.

O ALAC é responsável por considerar e fornecer aconselhamentos
às atividades da ICANN, por sua relação com os interesses
dos usuários individuais da Internet (comunidade "at-large" - "em
geral"). A ICANN, como um setor privado, corporação sem fins
lucrativos com responsabilidades técnicas sobre a gerência do
sistema de nomes de domínio e do endereçamento da Internet,
contará com o ALAC e sua infra-estrutura de suporte (grupos "at-large" em
todo o mundo), para envolver e representar na ICANN uma grande quantidade de
interesses dos usuários individuais.

Servindo de base de sustentação, a ALAC será (no futuro)
uma rede auto-organizada, auto-suportada de Estruturas At-Large (grupos) em todo
o mundo, que conterá em si usuários individuais da Internet em
nível local ou de assunto. As estruturas At-Large (tanto
organizações pré-existentes, tais como sucursais da ISOC ou
grupos de usuário de computador, ou grupos que foram recentemente
formados para este prop�sito) irão se auto-organizar em cinco
associações At-Large regionais (uma em cada região da ICANN
- áfrica, ásia-Pacífico, Europa, América
Latina/Caribe, e América do Norte). As associações At-Large
regionais irão gerenciar o alcance e a participação
pública, e serão o palco e o ponto principal da
coordenação em cada região para a inserção
pública na ICANN.

Discussion of challenges and concerns facing Brazilian Internet users

ICANN's At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) invites all interested
individuals to a meeting on Sunday, 23 March, from 16:30 to 18:30 in the
Botafogo Room at the Hotel Sofitel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (for directions
see <http://www.icann.org.br/rio/sofitel_index.htm>). The ALAC,
which was recently appointed by ICANN's Board and includes members from all five
world regions, will be learning about the challenges and concerns facing local
Internet users, and discussing how to help with the development (or
designation of) groups to represent and engage Brazil's individual Internet
users in ICANN. The meeting will be open to the public and any interested
Brazilians are welcome, and encouraged, to attend.

The ALAC is responsible for considering and providing advice on the
activities of ICANN, as they relate to the interests of individual Internet
users (the "At-Large" community). ICANN, as a private sector, non-profit
corporation with technical management responsibilities for the Internet's
domain name and address system, will rely on the ALAC and its supporting
infrastructure (At-Large groups all over the world) to involve and represent
in ICANN a broad set of individual user interests.

Underpinning the ALAC will (eventually) be a network of self-organizing,
self-supporting At-Large Structures (groups) throughout the world involving
individual Internet users at the local or issue level. The At-Large
Structures (either existing organizations, such as ISOC chapters or computer
user groups, or groups that are newly formed for this purpose) will
self-organize into five Regional At-Large Organizations (one in each ICANN
region - Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America/Caribbean, and North
America). The Regional At-Large Organizations will manage outreach and
public involvement and will be the main forum and coordination point in each
region for public input to ICANN.
