ICANN Registry Proposal
Registry Operator's Proposal - TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES AND PLAN
D15.2.10. Peak
capacities. Technical capability for handling a larger-than-projected
demand for registration or load. Effects on load on servers,
databases, back-up systems, support systems, escrow systems,
maintenance, personnel.
WebVision will provide the registry with sufficient computing and storage at all times. This will be done by using EMC storage devices, which allow for additional storage capacity to be added as needed without disturbing the systems. The main systems will be clustered and load-balanced using Arrowpoint Load Balancing switches. WebVision will establish a baseline for the Network and Systems performance and monitor load and traffic against that baseline. The baseline will be periodically revised to accommodated traffic and load patterns. The following list illustrates the Benchmark and Metrics that WebVision is capable of keeping and monitoring:
WebVision Benchmark Metrics
- Latency (not more than x seconds one way & x (e.g. 0.035) seconds two way (based on an SLA)
- Jitter (Average over time in variation of Latency) not greater than x seconds (e.g. 0.001 seconds)
- Restoration time not greater than x seconds (e.g. 0.0250 seconds)
- Packet loss Ratio less than x (e.g. 0.0001)
- Reliability of 99.999%
- Availability of 99.999%
- Service Interruption along qualified Segments
- Peering Arrangements (How many & at what Capacity)
- Switch/Router Backplane Capacity & Throughput

WebVision's Backplane Switch Fabric Capacity
(Per Data Center):
Cisco GSR 12016
Core Routers
|
20Gb/sec maximum throughput of the switch fabric (will
support MPLS & Web Content Caching Protocol-WCCP in Sept' 2000..Until
then we can not hang the Cacheflow devices on the GSR's)
|
Cisco BPX 8650
(Backbone ATM Switches)
|
80Gb/sec maximum throughput of switch fabric
|
Cisco 7513 (VIP-4, RSP-8)
|
4Gb/sec maximum I/O
(currently support MPLS & Web Content Caching Protocol-WCCP..will
use the Cisco 7513 for connecting Cacheflow devices until GSR's are ready)
|
Cisco 6509 Edge Routers
|
6Gb/sec maximum supported by the Fabric on the 6509
Backplane
