New gTLD Program
Global Consultation and Outreach Events
Introduction
With the expected introduction of New generic top-level domains (New gTLDs) into the market place in 2010, ICANN is hosting a series of live events and webinars starting June 2009. These events are designed in a wide range of formats to address different levels of knowledge.
The purpose of these events is to explain the Program, share the progress that ICANN has made to-date and to receive feedback from the community that will facilitate shaping the program.
These events are geared towards businesses small and large, trademark experts, professional associations, consumer and other civil society groups, members of the domain name industry, government officials, potential applicants and the ICANN community. All events are free of charge, but pre-registration is required.
During the upcoming consultation sessions in New York (13 July) and London (15 July), attendees will have the chance to hear from ICANN staff and others who have contributed to the ongoing process, including members of the Implementation Recommendation Team (IRT) that submitted their report to the ICANN Board on measures to protect intellectual property. The proposed events in Hong Kong (24 July) and Abu-Dhabi (4 August) will mainly focus on the New gTLDs and Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) programs details. The main language of the events is English. There are 3 types of events:
Live Outreach |
Live outreach events give an introduction to New gTLDs, provide up-to date program developments and make available relevant ICANN staff for questions and answers. These sessions are aimed at people with little or no prior knowledge of New gTLDs. |
Live Consultation |
Live consultations will engage the global Internet community to discuss workable solutions to outstanding issues on specific aspects of the program, particularly trademark protection and malicious behavior. These sessions are aimed at people that have been closely following the Program development and still have concerns. |
Webinars |
Webinars are on-line events that will give an introduction to New gTLDs and an in-depth understanding on specific topics and up-to date program developments. These sessions are aimed at people with different levels of knowledge. |
We expect high demand for places. On-line pre-registration is recommended and allocation will be on a first-come first-served basis. Once the registration is complete, we will contact applicants confirming their place. Preference will be given to people who are attending one of these consultation sessions (Sydney, London, New York) for the first time. Remote participation will be available.
Registration closed for Consultation Events in New York and London - An MP3 recording of both events will be made available shortly. The cut-off date to pre-register for Hong Kong is July 22, 2009 and Abu Dhabi, August 1, 2009.
Please note that attendees are responsible for their own travel and visa arrangements, accommodation and meals.
Specific agenda, speakers and other informational materials are now available on this page for the New York and London events, although agenda and speakers may be subject to change.
