ICANN's second regional meeting will open its doors in Dubai tomorrow, Tuesday 1 April.
It starts at 9am local time with opening remarks from the Director General, Telecom Regulatory Authority of UAE, Mr. Mohamed Al Ghanim, and ICANN's CEO Paul Twomey (timezone breakdown).
Then follows a keynote from the Chairman of TAGOrg, Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, and a presentation from the Director of Technical Affairs for TRA, Mohammed Gheyatha.
The meeting will last for three days with three main themes:
Day 1: An introduction to ICANN and the multi-stakeholder model
Day 2: Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs)
Day 3: New opportunities in the registry and registrar markets
You can find out all you need to know about the meeting here on ICANN's public participation site, with the full agenda on this webpage.
There is a chatroom for the course of the meeting, which may also be used for remote participation during the meeting.
And you will be able to listen in to events as they happen: in English, and in Arabic. (If you are looking for a media player, the excellent open-source and multi-functional VLC player can be downloaded here.)
The Dubai meeting is the second regional outreach meeting ICANN has held, the first being in Taipei between 19-21 October. The meetings are intended for policy makers, as well as business and members of the Internet community in the region.
For those interesting in participating remotely, 9am Dubai time = 6am London = 1am New York = 10pm Los Angeles. See table here.
