GNSO Privacy & Proxy Services Accreditation Issues Working Group
This Working Group was chartered by the GNSO Council in October 2013 to develop policy recommendations relating to the accreditation of privacy and proxy service providers (i.e. providers that enable domain name registrations with limited publication of the registrant's contact information in the publicly-accessible WHOIS domain name directory). ICANN had previously committed to creating such a program, and following the successful conclusion of negotiations for the 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement this issue was identified as the one remaining issue to be addressed via the GNSO's Policy Development Process. The WG began its work at the ICANN meeting in Buenos Aires. As part of its work, the WG will be considering the outcome of other related ICANN community work, including the recently-concluded WHOIS Privacy & Proxy Abuse Study and the ongoing work of the Expert Working Group on the proposed gTLD registration data directory service that will replace the current WHOIS system. The WG meeting is open to anyone with an interest in the issue.
