The ICANN board has an unusual mix of technical and legal responsibilities. I pursued a legal career because judges and politicians who lack critical understanding of computer technology make bad law. The ICANN board will make bad policy unless it includes people who understand both the technology and the real-world legal environment of the Internet.
I am employed by a multinational corporation which has given me an understanding of the large rightsholders' perspective. I believe strongly in free speech and individual rights, and that the proliferation of the Internet should enhance these values. I also believe that both large interests and small can be well served by ICANN.
The Internet is an incomparable communications tool and must have stewardship that is balanced in all respects to maximize its potential.
