| Michael Straub studied nuclear physics with computer sciences and electronics. He has a strong background in computer technologies, especially networking technology. A part of his diploma work was the development of an ethernet interface to a microprocessor system.
For nine years he is employed in the computer department of a pharmaceuticals manufacturer. He is member of a group defining his employers internet standards and he is coordinating the e-Commerce activities of this companies largest plant.
a) With about 12 years of internet experience he has a good understanding of internet technologies.
b) Michael is experienced in international project management. In a multinational project of pharmaceuticals manufacturers with several international health agencies he was the technology group's speaker. The group successfully developed a standard for exchange of drug application information between industry and authorities. This standard is well accepted in several european nations.

| Michael sees his mission in representing the interests of European internet USERS (not internet companies).
He observes the increasing difference of the internet's growth between rich and poor countries (Eastern Europe compared to Western and Middle Europe) with great concern.
In his opinion, there is a yawn in the economical and technical development of countries within the European Union and those outside.
He also apprehends social differences in the chance to access the internet, which will lead to disadvantages in the education and professional chances of a fast growing number of individuals.
