Statement addressing the candidates qualifications
and experience specifically relevant to
(a) ICANN's technical and
administrative responsibilities, and
(b) your leadership and policy-level
roles.
|
Legal background and experience with political and cultural - NGO - work and responsibilities as well as indefinite hours on the Internet make me a confident candidate for ICANN; admittedly, not so much if technical issues were really what ICANN has to deal with...:)

ICANN RELATED INTERESTS |
ICANN-related interests, including:
(a) Employment and consulting relationships
(b) Ownership or investment interests in any ICANN-related businesses
(c) Official positions in any ICANN-related businesses or organizations
|
I'm not affiliated with any business so I'm a truly neutral person in that respect. As a user of the Internet I'm and want to be influenced by users' concerns, though.

BACKGROUND |
Background information, personal statement, URL, or other information
you would like posted in connection with your name on the ICANN
website.

The Internet is an information pool, information is a prerequisite to transparency, transparency is a key requirement for democracy, and democracy is the best form of government human kind has come up with so far. Therefore ICANN should be considered a democratic body that manages access to and availability of information - under the control of the electorate, i.e. the users, rather than under the influence of money and national interests.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is ICANN's foremost role to decide what route to take in furthering the interests of the individual users around the world, rather than to focus on the development of technical solutions. In my mind ICANN should occupy itself with questions like actual control of the Internet, access to and availability of information, transparency and participation, as well as trademark, copyright, domain hijacking and cybersquatting issues.
ICANN's management functions, well, they entail politics; even if that were in ICANN's case only the policy to keep the Internet an open forum for everybody.
Then there is the technical part. Others, I think, are called upon to develop technical solutions; ICANN's role as indicated must be to determine which of many different solutions would best become an Internet standard - again a policy decision.
And since I think of myself as a more political candidate with an open mind for people's concerns: please send any specific questions or concerns by email; I will answer as many as possible and place all the answers on a web page.
