PROFESSIONAL
Employer(s)
No employer. I have no professional obligations that would interfere with a commitment to the ICANN board. Since I graduated from law school a year ago I have been taking time off to pursue other interests.

QUALIFICATIONS
Statement addressing the candidates qualifications and experience specifically relevant to
   (a) ICANN's technical and administrative responsibilities, and
   (b) your leadership and policy-level roles.
I have a strong knowledge of Internet technology and policy from a variety of experiences. I have two degrees in Electrical Engineering from MIT and a JD from Harvard Law School. I have been an Internet user since 1987. Prior to law school, I worked for Digital Equipment Corp. on an ATM networking chip. While at Digital, I began using web browsers, starting with NCSA Mosaic back in late 1993 or early 1994, and created my first home page.

Today, I own a few domain names, including andybloch.com and blochlaw.com, which point to my personal web sites. I was the initial volunteer developer and webmaster for http://www.johncranley.com, the website for the Cranley for Congress campaign.

I also recently purchased http://www.ICANNnot.org (if that link is not yet working, you can view the pages at http://www.andybloch.com/icannnot), which I am using to provide ICANN members with more information about me and my views on ICANN. The website will be continually developed during the elections. I highly doubt that I will win the nomination, so much so that I’m asking you NOT to vote for me, until others who share my views and are at least as qualified receive enough endorsements.

ICANN RELATED INTERESTS
ICANN-related interests, including:
   (a) Employment and consulting relationships
   (b) Ownership or investment interests in any ICANN-related businesses
   (c) Official positions in any ICANN-related businesses or organizations
These days, it’s hard to find any company that is not related to ICANN by virtue of the company’s Internet presence and that will not be affected by ICANN’s actions. I own a small, diversified stock portfolio including a variety of Internet-focused companies, none of which have a more significant relationship with ICANN than a typical Internet company.

BACKGROUND
Background information, personal statement, URL, or other information you would like posted in connection with your name on the ICANN website.
Please visit my ICANN elections website, http://www.ICANNnot.org , for updates on my views on the ICANN at-large elections. (If link is not working, view the pages at http://www.andybloch.com/icannnot).

My views about ICANN can best be summed up by one word: ICANNnot! When I first heard about the formation of ICANN a couple of years back, I didn’t think it would be good for the Internet, and now that we’ve been able to see it in operation, I still feel the same way. Sure, something had to be done about the Network Solutions monopoly. But did we really need a single source for naming websites, or could more creative minds come up with a workable, stable, distributed system (something like Napster for domain names)?

Now, here’s where I should beg you all to vote for me, except I won’t. The ICANN board adopted nomination rules that will make it very difficult for members to nominate candidates. Each member can only nominate a single candidate, and a candidate needs the support of 2% of the activated members. In North America, there were 21,596 membership applications received, and so far about 6000 of those have been verified. A candidate will need somewhere between 200 and 400 votes.

Before you endorse me, I ask you to endorse either of the two following candidates, (unless they both have surpassed the threshold, then please endorse me!). I don’t know either of these individuals personally, but they both seem to share my views and may be more qualified.

Karl Auerbach,
http://members.icann.org/nom/cp/16.html
or http://www.cavebear.com/ialc/

Robin Bandy,
http://members.icann.org/nom/cp/3.html or http://www.devnull.net/~krystal/icann/

I may add one or two more names to this list (or remove one) as the nomination phase proceeds, so check my website for updates.

Thank you for (not) voting for me!
