QUALIFICATIONS
Statement addressing the candidates qualifications and experience specifically relevant to
   (a) ICANN's technical and administrative responsibilities, and
   (b) your leadership and policy-level roles.
Working with the internet for many years now I had a lot of occasions to deal with the underlying technologies, since the University of Karlsruhe has a long tradition in the ICANN business: the DE-NIC was build up and managed for years here at the computing center, before it settled over to Frankfurt (and took a lot of good people with it :-). I personally worked for 7 years at the consulting team (giving help to students and other members of the university, kind of personalized helpdesk) before I took over the leadership of that team. As you can imagine working at a helpdesk gives you a broad base of knowledge of different areas. During that time I helped building up an ISP here in Karlsruhe, where I was able to get some good views into the marketing section of the internet business. I quit there when I got the chance to build up the certification authority (CA) at the university, which is meanwhile up and running.

ICANN RELATED INTERESTS
ICANN-related interests, including:
   (a) Employment and consulting relationships
   (b) Ownership or investment interests in any ICANN-related businesses
   (c) Official positions in any ICANN-related businesses or organizations
Since I am employed at the University of Karlsruhe I have no commercial interests in this area and can act free of any investment interests or influence. I have no positions in any ICANN-related businesses or organisations and I see this as a great advantage!

BACKGROUND
Background information, personal statement, URL, or other information you would like posted in connection with your name on the ICANN website.
I am 34 years old, male, happily married with a wonderful wife, and we are expecting our first baby in January. My main attention to be a candidate at ICANN is to represent a community without having any dependencies to business organisations which might influence any decisions that have to be taken (don't get me wrong: I don't say that about the other candidates, but they are sometimes employed by ISPs that might have some kind of interests in this area).

When I see things that have to be done by somebody I was never the type of guy who waited for someone else to do it. I still have the great will to learn, and coming from this I might be able to ask the right questions at the right time, cause there are a lot of people with the right answers if someone asks the right questions...

Experiences in representing organisations comes from all the way back to school (class speaker), university (representing the 900 students in the student residence I lived in), and some other organisations I am/was a member, like Mensa etc.

At the university my work is at the moment coordination of the consulting team (aka student helpdesk), playing webmaster since no one else seems to have interests in, and being the CA-Manager (well, besides a lot of other small jobs that have to be done...).
