| The cost of presenting ideas, information, goods and services to a global community has never been lower and the cost is dropping daily. The Internet being virtually stateless, has opened up new avenues of expression and has helped people and cultures worldwide to exchange ideas and bring about the Global Village in a form similar in concept from the 1970's.
Originally ICANN's role was to administer the Domain Name System on behalf of all Internet users worldwide. With the creation of the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy, this administration system has taken on a significant role in the affairs of every member of the Internet community. This is a neutral forum for resolving trademark, copyright, domain hijacking and cybersquatting issues.
This freedom is not without cost.
Danger
Without independent participation and viewpoints, the internet is in danger of becoming a tool of repression of the same depth and reach that is currently available as a force of freedom of speech and expression.
