I have been involved in the online community for just over 20 years, from the earliest bulletin boards of the late 70s to the present day incarnation of the online world. I have a first class Masters Degree in IT, and specialise in 'Human Factors', how people use technology to make things happen. I am currently the IT manager of a financial services corporation and heavily involved in online service provision. This involves me in significant levels of decision making and looking as far into the future as possible.
An 'Internet Year' might only be a few weeks, but it still takes a couple of 'real' years to put together a robust eBanking system, and by then everything has changed...

It is my belief that the internet should be treated as a world resource, and released from the shackles of American control. The World Wide Web was invented by an Englishman working in Switzerland, packet switching was developed by the old GPO in London, the Internet itself was created by the joining up of JANET in the UK with ARPANET in the US. The Internet has always been a joint effort between the US and Europe. It would be my intention to help refocus ICANN onto the rest of the world, rather than just looking after the interests of US corporations.

None, but I do act as a technology adviser to my local Member of the
European Parliament from time to time. This gives me a European breadth to my experience, especially from a technological and political point of view.
