Workshop: Protection for Registrants in an Evolving Market
06/23/2008 - 11:00
06/23/2008 - 12:30
Room:
Utrillo (Main Room)What it is | ICANN has undertaken a policy process which is designed to introduce a number of new Generic Top-Level Domains. This Workshop will focus discussion on how this may impact registrants and what should be considered to protect registrants as this evolution in the marketplace occurs.
Why it's important | The evolving domain name industry has introduced many new players and new business models on both the registrar and registry level. With this anticipated expansion in the number of gTLDs the rate of change and the significance of their impacts will increase. ICANN (including its supporting organisations, constituency groups and community) has a strong interest in protecting registrants and clearly describing the domain namespace for registrants. This participatory workshop will provide background and will solicit public discussion to identify actions that might be taken as part of the new gTLD introduction.
Who should attend? | Registrants, gTLD registrars and registries, parties who may apply for new gTLDs, and users of the Internet at-large.
