First daySo we're here in Sao Paulo. Today the Board we met in committees during the morning. Most of the Board's committees don't meet between the in-person meetings. I'm hoping to change this for the committees I'm on. This practice means that we have to spend quite a bit of time during the regular ICANN meetings doing committee work. Then we met as a Board (plus staff) for the afternoon. This was a meeting devoted to listing (but not ranking) priorities for 2007 -- the priorities were things you'd expect, like the new gTLD process, IDNs, and improving transparency. We also spent some time on internal Board machinations -- who's leading, who's on what committee. There's a steep learning curve for brand new board members and we have two of them who started this week. Site difficulties with time zones?Is anyone having difficulty with timezones, their computers and this site? There is a complex mix of time technology at work. First this site is told it is working four hours in the future because the server it is housed on is in LA. But it was originally built on a server in the UK. The site also has a small piece of code that reads each individual's computer clock as they log-in and the site then reorganises times on the fly to fit in with the individual. But I suspect that there may be a clash with this and the hard-wired times of the events. If anyone is having a problem, please comment below giving details. If not then it must all be working fine. I will miss this meetingThis is my first (and last) meeting I am going to miss in my capacity of member of the Board of Directors. But I will try to participate in all events that have distant participation, either via phone/skype/marratech/SIP* (* - preferred), or through this site. Wishing all of the participants safe travel and a fruitful meeting, I am switching to offline mode now. Wishing I was there.I'd hoped to attend the Sao Paulo meeting to learn more about making .nyc a TLD suitable for ICANN approval. But I just couldn't get out of the city (NYC). So I was delighted to learn about the participation website. I'll be testing this as the next best thing to being there. Hope it proves successful. Much success to all those attending in person.
