The most
important relationship in Internet related businesses would
be my Directorship of UniForum SA (http://co.za).
UniForum SA currently administers the co.za domain name space,
which is to the best of my knowlege, the largest zone in Africa
and accounts for approximately 95% of South Africa's namespace.
I play the the following roles in the organisation:
- a)
Financial Director
- b)
Vice Chairperson of the board
- c)
Responsibilities for legal matters
- d)
Joint spokesperson
*NB* UniForum
SA is a company incorporated under Section 21 of the South
African Companies Act, which means that is has no shareholding
nor can any profits the corporation may make be distributed.
I am a
partner in Flame Computing Enterprises CC (http://flamecomputing.com).
This is a consulting company that provides Intenet related
services for small to medium sized businesses. I am the honarary
treasurer of the Linux Professional Association (http://www.lpa.org.za).
I am a
director and shareholder in Domain Name Services (PTY) LTD,
a private company that was was originally set up during the
CORE domain name era for qualification as a CORE registry.
The company is dormant, has never traded and I mention it
only for completeness.
Statement
of Qualifications and Experience
I have
attended and actively taken part in the ICANN meetings held
in Singapore, Washington, Berlin, Cairo and Yokohama.
I have
participated in AFNOG, AfriNIC and Ripe NCC, ISOC and INET
events.
I have
been involved in the domain name debate since 1995 in a global
scale. In the South African context, I served on the ISOC
ZA board as committee member in charge of Membership. I have
been a part of the Drafting Committee which was set up by
ISOC ZA to address the .za namespace issues. I have been involved
in the setup of an ISP, and understand the issues involved
in connecting thousands of workstations with a single Class
C address range.

Personal
Statement
I started
working in the 90's doing my Accounting Articles (equivalent
of the American CPA). In around 1993, I started implementing
large scale Unix based accounting, MRP and logistics based
Information Systems. After completing my accounting article
(I have not completed the necessary studies to complete this
qualification), and based on my experiences on the internet,
I joined a computer networking company and was instrumental
in setting up a small to medium (in the South African context)
ISP.
During
that time, my involvement in UniForum SA made more and more
demands on my time, and eventually I made a decision to part
from the ISP, set up my own consulting company, and spend
the necessary time on .co.za naming issues.
