As the role of ICANN's Board moves away from the creation of ICANN itself to a full-fledge non-profit corporation, I believe my unique experience running two major non-profit trade associations brings an understanding of staffing, budget and non-profit issues that is critical to the successful future of this important institution. In the past, specific technical understanding was a critical part of Internet governance. Now, to reach the next stage, it will be critical to merge an understanding of technology issues with management and supervisory experience.

In addition, I will be able to use my ability to coalesce competing interests to develop policies for the greater good of all Internet users. My experience as President of the Information Technology Association of America and the World Information and Technology Services Alliance, working with members in bottom-up, member-driven processes, will be employed in my activities on the ICANN Board to ensure ICANN remains user-driven. I will work diligently to ensure that the ICANN Board demonstrates leadership through the building of consensus rather than a top-down, autocratic approach.

Statement of Qualifications and Experience

My international experience mirrors the growing global presence of the Internet, running global public policy meetings through WITSA and the Global Internet Project, of which ITAA serves as the secretariat. Through my involvement in a variety of Internet-related positions, I have worked hard and have taken a leadership role in marshalling consensus and resources to address critical technical matters as Y2K remediation and information security.

I do not have an ownership or investment interest in any ICANN-related businesses nor do I have an official position in any ICANN-related businesses or organization. I am a private citizen and am not an elected official or employee of a government or multinational entity.
