I want lots of them, and I want them fast. I don't particularly care which ones they are.

I don't have any specific wants of that kind. I expect there will be new TLDs and think they ought to come after all due and careful deliberation by all concerned.

It's almost impossible to imagine ICANN agreeing to allow the immediate introduction of an unlimited, or even large, number of new TLDs without a powerful sunrise provision across the board. This would be unfortunate, because although I believe that a sunrise provision is a good idea for specific new (restricted or unrestricted) TLDs, such as .biz or .firm, it is certainly not a good idea for *all* TLDs. I agree with ICANN's expected go-slow approach, introducing a small number of carefully selected TLDs and watching to see what happens. Although this looks to a dynamist like just another attempt to pre-program the future to be safe and predictable, the TLDs ICANN is expected to create are not likely to require sunrise restrictions, and we will have the opportunity to focus on the new dynamics of registry creation and competition rather than legal challenges, injunctions, and lengthy court proceedings.

I would not prefer one TLD over another. I would like to see as many as possible in the shortest time as possible.

Simple principle: Minimize monopoly power. More TLDs, as quickly as is feasible.

I don't care what new TLDs are created - I don't think the character string is any part of ICANN's business - but I want 'em created fast and I want 'em to flow into many hands, particularly hands of people who will try new ideas. I've been associated with tests that demonstrate that we can have millions of TLDs. So I figure that we ought to allocate on the order of 10,000 TLD slots a year (that reaches the million level in 100 years). Those who oppose new TLD's often wave the word stability around, but I have never yet heard them say what they mean or who that stability is to benefit. From a technical point of view there will be not one whit of instability to the DNS system caused by a large influx of new TLDs. I've suggested a nearly-free lottery system to allocate these slots - some people don't like that system, and I'm happy to hear alternative's. The key point is to get TLDs out there quickly and into the hands of people who can use them creatively for any purposes, not just for more mass marketing. http://www.cavebear.com/ialc/platform.htm#dnspol-tldpol
