The european at large director shall be representing european users needs. To be able to do this, we will need an at least informel european users forum. I was in moscau this year in april on the Cyberrights/Outlook for Freedom Conference (www.hro.org/2000/eindex.htm) and can imagine at lot of specific needs from russian users. It would be helpful, to get some people in russia together to pariticipate in the mailing-lists we currently have like icann-europe@fitug.de (see www.fitug.de for subscribtion info).

I can imagine that there are interests and demands by Russia concerning the DNS and the tasks of ICANN that have not yet been formulated. I want to invite you to express these requirements. Feel free to participate in the Forums and chats.
I personally support the introduction of the multilingual DNS and the work of the IETF to introduce this technology. I am sure that the multilingual DNS will offer Russia new possibilities.

What kind of representation are you talking about?

I would say that an elected ICANN Board member represent himself/herself and he/she is elected by the electorate. An elected ICANN Board member must be loyal to ICANN and work for what is best for the organisation and its goals as a whole, not for special groups or countries. I represent neither Norway nor Russia.

The European At Large Director is expected to represent Europe, not a specific country.
