I do prefer to have a well balanced relation of commercial to non-commercial TLDīs. So, this is one good example for a non-commercial TLD. In my view, ICANN should also put this relationship on the cost question; the current 50.000$ question is the wrong way cause it ignores the fact, that the name space is a public space.

A .union could be one of the new TLDs. .union could be one of the new chartered TLDs, allowing only people aligned with a unsion to register a domain name within this TLD.
With the right business concept and financial background the proposal would probably be successful.

There is a call for proposals. Such a propsal seems to be interesating especially because it would increase diversity of the existing gTLD's.

Fine by me. If we succeed in deregulating the name space, it will be up to the unions themselves to decide upon this question. Remember, there are no technical reasons whatsoever for restricting the number of new TLDs.

The criteria for new gTLDs must be developed first. My current feeling (note that I first have to see the application and then make up my mind...) is that the future criteria probably will let .union pass.
