To enable a professional real-time translation of the documents, ICANN has not enough funding. So, this will have to be done outside of ICANN. What I would support as a director is the immediate transparency and availability of all documents to european users, so that maybe local european users forums can organize translation. Maybe this would be even a good possibility for official politics to support translation service.

The translation of important documents and papers is one important point to keep the internet community informed. Unfortunately ICANN did not have the necessary funding to do this satisfactorily. To improve the translation will maintain to be an important aim.

It has started with the At Large Program. More should be done, especially concerning the most important documents (board minutes). Volunterrs from the At Large membership could participate.

As it stands, English is the lingua franca on the Net. I am afraid we have to come to terms with this fact. And for Europeans this is way easier to accomplish than for other language areas. To be sure, translations of important documents should be provided. However, ICANN will never have the means that the EU, for example, has at its disposal.

I will promote Diversity. I think translation of ALL on-line ICANN documents will not be realistic the first, say 5 years. But the most important ones should be translated.
