As I am self-employed in the context of technical and social development of the net, I can propably spend most of my time for ICANN related issues just as I do right now. My time budget question is less related to job requierements, than it is to the priorities within the game. Currently, I had about as much journalists questions/interviews as Q´s here, and I gave some priority to the press to use the chance to support the discussion of the issues in the public and let more people know & think about it. I know that I missed some time for the Q´s and A´s here and try to make it up now.
As a director, most of time would propably be beeing an interface between users interests groups, the ICANN board and the public in all it´s forms to bring the development of the public space not only in the heads of the people, but also in the architecture. So an organization of european users - and if it is just an informel forum - could help a lot to save time through concentrating the discussion to the issues.
As more people help to organize this discussion, the less we can avoid single points of failures. Beeing to much representative fails on the long term road, cause it means to have not enough time to get into the details of the issues. As you will see from some of my other answers, I do have strong opinions on some issues, while I´d like to get more into discussion with other users about other stuff. So organize possibilities of participation means for me organize transparency and discussion, and that is, what requieres a lot of time.

I have a job and no intention whatsoever to give up this job. Extra costs will be covered by my employers.
Due to lucky circumstances, ICANN and the development of the DNS are at the center of what I do for a living. Thus, my job and my activities as a netizen and candidate do intersect.
If I was temporarily unable to answer questions, other questions and particularly questionnaires were the main reason.
Just as an aside, has anybody ever inquired the SO director's time budget?

My candidature includes the commitment that I will work the necessary time as a director or ICANN. In advance to my application, I talked to my employer who accepted my engagement at ICANN and my related time exposure.
