Directly electing at-large directors is the first step (and we're only electing 5 in this round - at least half of ICANN's directors should be elected by the at-large membership). The next step is to ensure that the at-large membership has an effective way to interact (a forum) and an effective way to channel the ideas generated by that interaction to its representatives on the board (perhaps a general assembly or council). The at-large directors can also be expected to make ICANN's workings much more visible to the members.

ICANN needs to keep member registration open. Currently it is closed. ICANN needs to allow for an unlimited number of TLDs to help open the DNS system. ICANN needs to create transparent processes so that regular folks can see what is going on.

There are several progressive candidates running for the North America seat, and at most one of us can win. Some of us have discussed post-election strategy, and we are hoping to use the visibility and credibility that we have achieved through the election process to push for increased representation of the interests and needs of the at large folks. It would be nice to have a plan in place by the upcoming ICANN meeting in Marina del Rey. If anyone reading this has suggestions for what we should do and how we might have meaningful (read political) impact, please let me know.
