new TLDs

Question:
I thik that creating too many new TLDs could create only confusion. Exactly the opposite of the purpose cause of which they would be introduced. And why don't limit the TLDs' lenght to three characters? Maybe later expandable.

I keep on talking about the CRITERIA for new TLDs. ICANN must define these criteria. They are more important than the number of new TLDs. If the criteria are good, and easy to understand, confusion will not be created even if the number of TLDs is high. 3 letters only? I dont't think so. The criteria for county code TLDs (ccTLDs) are well defined because someone (ISO) is maintaining a list 2 and 3 letter codes. The criteria for new gTLDs will be a challenge to develop, but I am sure it can be done.

The original purpose of the Domain Name System has never been to create or to avoid confusion, but to offer a user-friendly substitute for hard to remember IP addresses. The Internet still grows and changes by such a breathtaking speed that orientation and order can at present only be provided by tools like search engines. And if you ask me, I see no reason at all why we should try to restrict what is technical possible and accepted among the Net's users.
