I fully support the creation of a new ccTLD .eu, that will contribute to the development of Internet in Europe: the use of .eu will give a new visibility to the european values and cultures.

In the end I think it was a wise resolution. Seen from a global perspective .eu will balance the US-dominated gTLDs and thereby promote competition. Other regions of the world may claim the right to establish similar country codes for their respective geographic regions. By the reference ...are delegable as ccTLDs only in cases where the ISO 3166 Maintenance Agency, on its exceptional reservation list, has issued a reservation of the code that covers any application of ISO 3166-1 that needs a coded representation in the name of the country, territory, or area involved; .. ICANN has defined a new practice which in theory also applies for other regions. My personal opinion is that .eu in the end will be good for European At Large members, given a well operated Registry with a network of Registrars, and a good naming-policy.
