Why it's important | Working group members have asked for time in Mexico City to discuss their charter development efforts. That draft charter document will be posted for public/community comment.

What it is | This session is the public presentation of the work of the Security
and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC).

Why it's important | SSAC's work is primarily concerned with security and stability issues of the Internet's naming and address allocation systems.

Who should attend? | The public is invited to interact with SSAC members with questions and comments regarding any issue related to SSAC.

What it is | Technical Workshop, with presentations, discussions and hands-on demonstrations in an interactive format.

Why it's important | Present day operational issues and challenges will be discussed and practical solutions in place at ccTLD Registries will be demonstrated.

Who should attend? | Technical staff and management from ccTLD registries, in particular small and emerging ones, but also developers and gNSO Registries.

What it is | Welcome to Mexico City and formal opening of the 34th International Public ICANN Meeting. President's Report and Meeting Overview; a quick overview of the conference covering the days, likely topics, feedback methods and the public forum.

Why it's important | It is the formal opening of the meeting and features local dignatories. The Meeting Overview will give attendees a broad overview of the mechanics of the meeting and also act as a noticeboard to anything that would be useful for all attendees to know.

Who should attend? | All ICANN meeting participants are encouraged to attend this event to learn more about meeting activities and the ICANN community.

What it is | At this session ICANN Staff will give an overview of the topic of Internationalized Domian Names. This will include an overview of what IDN related activities are ongoing currently and what work remain to be finalized before IDNs can be introduced as TLDs. The session will further provide an overview of additional IDN sessions throughout the week.

Why it's important | The introduction of IDNs is considered one of the most significant innovations in the Internet since its inception. IDNs are and will offer many new opportunities or Internet users around the world by allowing them to establish and use domain names in their native languages and scripts. As we are moving towards IDNs introduced as TLDs additional work has been identified based on the experiences from the second level introductions that started back in 2001.

Who should attend? | If you are interested in the use of domain names with other characters than those in the basic Latin script, either personally or because you are addressing a community or market that will benefit from the availability of such domain names - this session is for you. Further if you are taking part in the continued policy development and/or implementation of the two processes by which IDN TLDs will become available - this session is for you.

What it is | An introductory session for those new to ICANN.

Why it's important | Both ICANN's work and the organization itself is complex and can be overwhelming for new arrivals. This session aims to explain the organization and also answer whatever questions are asked from the floor in order to help increase understanding in time for the rest of the conference.

Who should attend? | Anyone who has never been to an ICANN conference before or who wants to know general details about how ICANN works.

What it is | The second draft of the new gTLD applicant guidebook was posted for public comments on February 18, 2009. This session will discuss the changes made from the first version to the second version and what to expect in the near future from the New gTLD Program.

Why it's important | This session not only provides an update to the community on the second draft, but also gives an opportunity for questions and clarifications.

Who should attend? | All individuals and organizations interested in New gTLD.
