Dear ICANN Board Members, I am writing to express my support for the Internet Society's (ISOC)
bid to manage the .ORG registry. As a long time supporter of the Internet,
I have been involved in ISOC's activities and am currently a board member
of ISOC_Taiwan Chapter. I believe that a successful ISOC bid would be
good for .ORG and good for the Internet community for a number of reasons. Dear ICANN Board Members, I am writing to express my support for the Internet Society's (ISOC)bid to manage the .ORG registry. As a long time supporter of the Internet, I have been involved in ISOC's activities. I believe that a successful ISOC bid would be good for .ORG and good for the Internet community for a number of reasons. First, as one of the oldest 'Internet institutions' ISOC has long led activities that contribute to an open and stable Internet. Through its current initiatives in support of education and training, internet standards and protocol, and public policy, ISOC has played a critical role in ensuring that the Internet has developed in a stable and open manner. ISOC also provides a voice to the many talented individuals who wish to contribute to these issues and serves as a global community for issues critical to the Internet's development. Additionally, ISOC supports the open mechanisms that are so important in enabling true consensus on key Internet developmental issues. Further, I believe that ISOC's mission of ensuring "the open development, evolution and use of the Internet for the benefit of all people of the world" is in full harmony with ..ORG's goals. For 10 years ISOC has runinternational network training programs for developing countries andthese programs played a vital role in setting up the Internet connections and networks in virtually every country that has connected to the Internet in the last 8 years. Second, ISOC's plans for .ORG will enable it to flourish as a truly global home for non-commercial interests on the Internet. Though well established, .ORG remains well short of its true potential, and ISOC, as evidenced by the breadth of both its past and current undertakings, can be a credible force in furthering .ORG's value to the non-commercial organizations across the world. As a non-commercial entityitself, we believe ISOC will make an effective and trustworthy stewardfor the domain. And finally, ISOC is partnering with Afilias, who successfully deployed the first EPP-based registry system with the launch of INFO. Afilias has a proven back-office system that can clearly execute the policies developed by ISOC and that are required for a stable and effective management of . ORG. I ask you to look favorably upon theInternet Society proposal and to appoint the Internet Society as the next registry manager for this very important domain. Sincerely, Pierre Dandjinou

leaders (Allan Weis and others) have been involved from the early days
with the Internet and with ISOC. We have been consistent strong supporters
of what ISOC has done, and we have worked with ISOC and many of its
leaders to implement programs such as ThinkQuest. We have contributed
significantly to INternet2, and to the future development of the Internet.
We believe very much in the role and importance of ISOC and its work. First, as one of the oldest 'Internet institutions' ISOC has long led activities that contribute to an open and stable Internet. I am writing on behalf of EDUCAUSE to express our support for the Internet Society's bid to manage the .ORG registry. EDUCAUSE is a nonprofit association of nearly 2,000 colleges and universities, whose mission is to advance higher education by promoting the intelligent use of information technology. EDUCAUSE, and previously EDUCOM and CAUSE, have been early and strong supporters of the Internet and of ISOC. For the Internet to fulfill its potential, key administrative activities must be managed by individuals and groups who understand the history, the technology, and the capabilities of this uniquely powerful international resource. From its earliest days, ISOC has been the repository of just such wisdom, attracting the highest caliber of Internet pioneers to its active membership and to its Board. Long before the Internet was a world-wide presence, ISOC and its members recognized that the Internet would be a powerful force for international economic and social development, and worked to create and promote the stable and open systems we all take for granted today. ISOC and its members have also taken lead positions in Internet-related public policy initiatives and in crucial education and training programs, especially in developing countries. As one of the original top-level domains, effective stewardship of .ORG is extremely important to the ongoing stability of the Internet in general. EDUCAUSE believes that ISOC has the vision, the background, and the administrative capacity required to manage this critical element of the global Internet, and we urge you to look favorably on the Internet Society's proposal. Sincerely, Steven L. Worona |
