Overview:

GNSO Privacy & Proxy Accreditation Services Issues Policy Development Process Working Group

The GNSO's Privacy & Proxy Services Accreditation Issues (PPSAI) Working Group released its Initial Report for public comment in May 2015. The Working Group was chartered to develop policy recommendations for an accreditation program for privacy & proxy service providers in relation to gTLD registration data in the global, publicly accessible WHOIS system. ICANN has already committed to creating such a program, and the 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement contains a temporary specification that will expire on 1 January 2017. Privacy & proxy services allow domain name registrants and beneficial owners to mask certain contact and identity details in WHOIS. The Working Group's Initial Report contains recommendations relating to accrediting privacy and proxy services, such as requirements concerning mandatory contractual terms, handling of customer data, relay and reveal procedures and other topics. At this meeting, the Working Group will review public comments received on its recommendations to date. Anyone interested in the use of privacy or proxy services or the workings of Whois is invited to attend.
