Question: Do you have a specific proposal in mind for increasing the number of TLDs available?

One recent ICANN action will be the planned addition of new generic Top-Level Domains (gTLD's)to the name space. ICANN is expected to select a small number of new gTLD's soon. I am aware of the debate surrounding this issue, particularly regarding the number and character of the gTLD's that ICANN should introduce. I support the ICANN Board of Directors’ recent decision in Yokahama for the introduction of new top-level domains (TLDs) in a measured and responsible manner. This process should be simple, easy-to-use, open and understandable to all, and quick. Issuing a new TLD should be based on a careful balance between the need for such a TLD and the potential abuse (i.e. cybersquatting) and confusion by the public.

In parts. But I think this is a duty for the new ICANN directors, once elected.

Your question appears to have touched upon a broad range of subject matters. First, there are procedural issues relating to the steps to be taken to introduce new TLDs. Secondly, there are also a lot of substantive issues like those before ICANN as to the interaction between intellectual property rights and web identifiers, the continued function of existing DNS, and the interests of registries ccTLDs, etc. If you would, please clarify your question or restrict your question to a particular issue. I would be pleased to discuss with you further. Thank you.

When elected, I don't think it is proper for me as a board member to carry out such a proposal. In principle, I believe that the new gTLD could be as many as needed when they do not damage the exsiting DNS. I will support for such new gTLDs. And, I am willing to discuss with members about gTLD with potential. Another point states that I support to arrange an Alpha-test time for a new TLD. I think it aims to the similar goal with the different policies for the TLDs suggested by Prof. Lessig.
