There should be no monopoly. But the matter needs to be looked into in more detail before I can state my stand.

The current arrangement among the U.S. Department of Commerce, Network Solutions, and ICANN is based on a compromise and some history. It also has a series of timetables. In general, I support competition in any of the ICANN-related activities.

I think you are arguing the contract between ICANN and Network Solution, under which all ICANN Accredited Registrars must pay for Network Solution and manage as well as transmit local whois data to the centralized whois database by Network Sulotion. Is that right? I support for ending this kind of monopoly. And, I think a better way for the whois facility must be worked out.
