While it may be good to have a representative from your home country, I think what is more important is what the candidate stands for. I am of Indian origin born in Malaysia (Thus a Malaysian), but my ICANN responsibilities is for the entire Asian region as a whole. It does not matter where I come from, but I will fight for the rights of all Asian Netizens.

I am very sympathetic to your point. As a matter of fact, I participated in a conference in India (titled “How to Enable E-commerce in India”) as a part of the co-organizer, where I met with many local experts on policy issues of the Internet and e commerce. However, this ICANN election is NOT the one to select national representative. All board members represent broader concerns regarding the Internet. Having no candidate THIS TIME does not mean that India has no representation. If elected, I want to visit India again and talk directly with you and your colleagues about any issues you think should be raised with the board, including the election process and Indian participation to any ICANN activities in the future.

In the first place, I would like very much to work with your people together and speak for your requirements on Internet, no matter elected or not. We have to understand no matter who and how many candidates are nominated there will only one be elected. The most important thing becomes the memeber awareness and the will of the elected board member for this region. When we talk about the population, we must keep in mind of that the AAP region is too large definied. Hence, I stated in the nominee page of mine as following, to allow at-large membership to determine majority, if not all, increase director seats for the Asia-Australian-Pacific Region.
