Well, that is already happening now. There are many free email sites, and I agree that emails should never be charged. FOREVER.

Thanks to the development of the digital technology and network infrastructures, the cost of electronic communications including email dropped dramatically. More technological developments and the expanded use of such technologies will surely reduce the communication cost further. One of the key elements is the competitive market where such new technologies are equally available for everybody and we need to fight against any of the structural impediments to such a competitive environment. Communication infrastructure is becoming a more important aspect of the public infrastructure, and therefore I understand your point of free email. However there is still some cost associated with building and operating the infrastructure. The question is how does society bear and allocate the cost. This may depend on the countries’ public policy, which may vary. I just want to emphasize the importance of competition and technological developments which reduce overall cost of the communication infrastructure for society.

I think you mean you don't have to pay for the basic fee for the email accounts as in your country. I agree for that. But, I think you should still pay for the necessary maintenance costs if you are not going to do it by yourself. Actually, you can get a better prise when a great amount of people share the mail server. And, the prise will go down when the resourses and techniques more advanced developed. That's what I explained to the other questions, said profits resulted from abandon.
