  • ALAC RALO Workshop (10:30-15:00) (Fez 1A)

What it is: ICANN's At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) is responsible for providing advice on the activities of ICANN, as they relate to the interests of individual Internet users (the "At-Large" community), and for helping the At-Large community organize for individual Internet user's participation in ICANN policy making (specifically, create Regional At-Large Organizations, RALOs). Workshop participants will discuss ALAC/RALO-working structures and RALO-bylaws and which approaches best support individual Internet users participation and involvement in ICANN policy development activities.

The ALAC will be discussing progress towards creating Regional At-Large Organizations, from which new ALAC members will be appointed, and will consider whether alternatives ways of organizing At-Large groups should be explored to encourage effective At-Large participation in ICANN.

Why it's important: Many registrants do not look ahead to consider what happens to a domain name when they are finished with it. In many cases, the results are surprising and unpleasant. The reports presented show why. While these incidents are more common in the large gTLDs, similar problems are possible in ccTLDs and can be reduced through local policies controlling reuse of domain names.
