Confessions of a RFugee

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is AJ Doyle and I hail from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. I had been a registerfly customer since December of 2004. When I first registered my domain, I didn't really have the cash on hand to go more than a year. I registered for one year in December of 2004. In December of 2005, I went ahead and added an additional 2 years to my registration.

My domain wasn't due to expire until 12-15-2007 or so I thought.

It was December 15th, 2006 - I was in the process of redesigning my site. I went out to my domain and saw the parking page.

I had no idea what to do, I was in total shock. I immediately picked up the phone and called registerfly.
they told me that it was "technical difficulties" and that I should give it 24 hours to fix itself.

It didn't fix itself. I called and submitted tickets every day after that - most days being on hold for up to 1 hour and 30 minutes before giving up.

On January 16th, 2007 my original ticket was answered. It said that my domain was successfully renewed, and to check it on my end.

I checked it - I was excited that I would finally have my domain back. I didn't have it back. I called registerfly, and the support person (I actually got through in 28 minutes!) told me that my domain was never registered with registerfly - it was registered with a company called eNom.

I finally stumbled across registerflies.com and it all started to come together for me.

I saw the advice about what to do if your domain whois information showed enom as the registrar. I quickly followed the instructions and sent an email to Elida Flores at enom. My domain was pushed to eNom's control.
You can read the entire email Here

This was probably a big mistake on my part, because eNom then seized the domain name and told me that it was in Extended Redemption Grace Period and that I could indeed have the domain name back for a small fee of $160.00. In 2004, I was a student at a tech school - I could barely afford to register the domain in the first place - in 2005, I was able to treat myself to a 2 year renewal. What makes you think that in 2006-2007, I can just throw out $160.00 to reclaim my domain?

I am sure that there are MANY people in my boat and I am afraid that boat may be sinking. We have to make our voice heard. Only then, will this policy be fixed for the victims of Registerfly.com
