Domain registrars

One thing that burns me up. I get tons of snail mail from registry companies if i do not have my domains privacy enabled or use false names. One reason is i hope ICANN allows users to pick who they move to a new registrar because of the registerfly situatino after the 31st. It should be done at Registerfly's dime. Icann should email the owners and decide where to go.

Domain Ownership Privacy

I have had websites and consequently domain names since 1993 with a variety of registrars.

Privacy was an issue for me for some time until I started using my current registrar. They offer a "private" option that basically uses their name as "Owner" when someone does a Whois for my domains.

I would think the problem of privacy can easily be remedied (as in my case) by the registrars and not having ICANN have to regulate.

Why would people want their ownership information public anyway? If someone wants to contact me they can do it through the websites.

Domain Ownership Privacy

Many people did exactly like you and used the 'Privacy' option called ProtectFly from registerfly.com

Those domains are now next to impossible to do anything with now that registerfly isn't operating correctly and is on notice of termination of being a registrar recognised by ICANN.

Privacy is needed, but unfortunately the route taken of using someone else's ID in the whois ownership field has back-fired and caused a lot of trouble for many people.

Hiding ownership details should be prevented by ICANN. Only name and addresses should be shown for corporations and public bodies. Individuals should be able to withdraw their details from the public view of the whois registration details as in the .uk ccTLD example.

Believe in fate...I usue it to prevent being spammed by this one expensive registrar.
