Joint ccNSO and GAC meeting on IDNs

What it is: This workshop will focus on the policy issues related to the introduction of internationalized top level domains. A number of working groups (including the GNSO and the ccNSO jointly with the GAC) have been working since the Sao Paulo meeting to frame IDN policy issues. Papers covering IDN policy issues are anticipated to be generated by these working groups and made available for review by this workshop.

Despite its global reach, the Internet is still built on a code base that uses English lettering and numbers as its foundation. Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs) will enable people from right across the world to use their own languages right through the Internet, making it a truly global resource. As with IPv6 and DNSSEC, however, there are very significant technical challenges to be overcome before IDNs are widely available.
