At-Large Advisory Committee Meeting, Second Session

2007-03-27 13:00
2007-03-27 18:00
Etc/GMT+2

What it is: The meeting is the main policy related meeting for At-Large in Lisbon. Along with guest speakers, the delegates will seek to agree on policy statements covering three areas of current ICANN policy work: Domain Monetisation / Tasting, Registry/Registrar Practices of Concern to End-Users, and Internationalised Domain Names.

Why it's important: The two regions and ALAC, after consulting with the other regions, expect to conclude statements on policy areas under discussion in other constituencies.

What it is: The second session of the AFRALO at Lisbon is expected to be devoted to discussing the policy areas the region wishes to focus on and the regionally-specific view on the afternoon session with ALAC and the European ALS meeting topics.

Why it's important: This is the main opportunity for the African ALS community to set the policy priorities in a face-to-face setting in 2007.

Yesterday's IPv6 Deployment Panel Discussion

Yesterday's presentations by Alex Le Heux, João Damas and Gert Döring inspired an interesting discussion on IPv6 deployment issues. The session transcript has been published on the main meeting web site and a video archive of the discussion will be made available for download some time next week. Here are some key points from the discussion:

  • About one third of TLDs already have IPv6 active for at least one of their nameservers

XXX domains

There should be an XXX domain. All related websites should be moved to that domain. This should keep non people out of the area because of security and other features.

Failed Registerfly Renewal Expirations & Redemption.

Notes: the simplest stuff

Some people harbor the expectation that Registerfly will be put out of business by a Revoked RAA situation from ICANN. The actual facts are more likely that they will have to remove the ICANN STAMP, and strictly act as a name affilliate/reseller, as they did when they first started that company. Registerfly could continue operations after March 31st, likley buying domains through TUCOWS or some equivalent that they have a working API for.

IANA Staff at ICANN Lisbon

This is a brief note to all that staff from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) are attending the ICANN meetings in Lisbon, and are very happy to meet with any of IANA's customers to discuss particular requests or questions they may have.
